JAKIM's list of recognised foreign halal certification bodies, effective 21 August 2026, names MUIS (entry 68) and BPJPH (entry 31), and VKA is MUIS and BPJPH halal-certified. A listed body is where a Malaysian buyer's check starts: the buyer's own halal route, the certificate's scope and each raw material still determine whether a flavour can be approved for the intended product.
What JAKIM's recognised foreign body list tells you
The list identifies foreign halal certification bodies and authorities recognised by JAKIM. It identifies recognised certifiers. An individual certificate establishes the covered flavour, supplier or manufacturing site. The edition used here took effect on 21 August 2026. Read the entry alongside the certificate presented by your supplier and check the edition again when approving the ingredient.
Are MUIS and BPJPH on the list?
BPJPH is listed as entry 31 for Indonesia on page 22, under the name Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal, Kementerian Agama Republik Indonesia. MUIS is entry 68 for Singapore on page 47, under Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura. Both entries are designated AUTHORITY in the 21 August 2026 JAKIM list. That confirms the named bodies' inclusion in this edition. It does not establish which VKA site or product an individual certificate covers.
Imported goods described as halal in Malaysia
The instrument is the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011, P.U.(A) 431/2011. Paragraph 3 names JAKIM and the Islamic Religious Councils in the respective States as the competent authorities to certify halal in Malaysia. Paragraph 5(1) says imported food and goods marketed in Malaysia may not be described as halal unless they comply with paragraph 4 or are certified as halal by a foreign body recognised by JAKIM as specified in the Second Schedule. Paragraph 5(2) requires the importer or manufacturer to mark the certifying body's name on those goods. This concerns goods described as halal when marketed in Malaysia; it is not presented here as a blanket rule for every business-to-business ingredient. Read the original gazette, page 10. The list's restatement is on page 67 of 69.
Raw materials in a Malaysian halal application
For a Malaysian manufacturer applying for its own halal certificate, the raw-material requirements are in the Manual Prosedur Pensijilan Halal Malaysia (Domestik) 2020, as amended by Pekeliling Pensijilan Halal Malaysia Bilangan 1 Tahun 2026, in force from 1 April 2026. Paragraph 17(1)(b) requires animal-derived raw material to carry valid halal certification from a competent authority or recognised body. Keep that evidence with the ingredient review.
Pre-blending, supporting documents and the original manufacturer
Paragraph 17(1)(f) requires valid halal certification for raw materials that undergo additional processing by a third party, including a supplier or intermediary; its examples include cutting, pre-blending (pra campuran) and repacking. Under 17(1)(d), material without certification, or certified by an unrecognised body, needs supporting documents covering composition, process flow and raw-material source. Paragraph 17(1)(e) requires the original manufacturer to be identifiable. These are distinct requirements: a composition dossier does not replace the certification required for pre-blended material. See Manual 2020, page 18 and the amended manual attached to Pekeliling 1/2026.
Requirements for the food and beverage product scheme
For the food and beverage product scheme specifically, paragraph 18(1)(e) names MS 1500:2019 Halal Food-General Requirements (Third Revision), the Food Act 1983 (Act 281), the Food Regulations 1985 and the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009. This is the manual's list of applicable requirements for that scheme.
What to ask a flavour supplier for before approving a sample
Before approving a flavour sample, ask for the halal certificate and its scope, then match the named product and original manufacturer to the flavour under review. Ask for the specification, composition and allergen statements and the raw-material evidence relevant to your own certification application. State the intended market and your certifier's document requirements in the brief. VKA supplies specification and safety data sheets, certificates of analysis, allergen and composition statements and halal scope documents with samples, plus a certificate of free sale where the importer asks for one. See the Malaysia flavour supplier page for the documentation pack.
The list changes: check the edition and validity
The 21 August 2026 edition replaced one effective 30 January 2026 and lists 96 bodies in 49 countries or regions. The list's validity section is on page 66. Recognition of a body and the validity of an individual supplier certificate are different checks. Return to the JAKIM list for the edition that applies when you review the certificate.
How to verify a certificate and request VKA's documents
Use JAKIM's halal status check to reach the Halal Malaysia directory, including overseas certification information. Review the certificate supplied with the sample for its scope and validity, and take the ingredient evidence to the team handling your own halal application. VKA's MUIS and BPJPH certificates are the starting documents to request; neither the list nor this guide establishes that a particular VKA flavour has Malaysian product approval.
Which foreign halal certification bodies are recognised by JAKIM?
JAKIM publishes the recognised foreign halal certification bodies and authorities. The edition effective 21 August 2026 lists 96 bodies in 49 countries or regions, including MUIS at entry 68 and BPJPH at entry 31. Check the list's current edition alongside the supplier certificate.
Is an Indonesian halal certificate recognised by JAKIM?
BPJPH is entry 31 for Indonesia in JAKIM's list effective 21 August 2026. That confirms recognition of the named authority. Check the certificate's scope and the evidence required for your own halal route.
How can I check the halal status of an imported product in Malaysia?
Start with JAKIM's halal status check and the foreign-body list, then review the supplier's certificate, scope and validity. For a raw material used in a Malaysian halal application, review the evidence under Manual 2020 paragraph 17(1), as amended by Pekeliling 1/2026.
Is VKA JAKIM certified?
VKA states that it holds MUIS and BPJPH halal certificates; it does not state that it holds JAKIM certification. Ask for the certificate and scope documents for the flavour you are evaluating. Inclusion of MUIS and BPJPH in JAKIM's foreign-body list is a statement about those certifying authorities.
